Her mother, Juanita, is a flight attendant and her father, Trevor Haines, is a ticket manager. She has one sister named Lindsay and one brother named Greg Morandin. She is of Irish, Russian, and Welsh descent.
Rocha is one of the few models who has spoken out against the prevalence of eating disorders in the modeling industry. She has acknowledged the pressure she faced as a fledgling model and recalls becoming obsessed with food after a trip to Singapore where she gained ten pounds. In an email to the Associated Press, she gives an insight into the fashion world, saying: "I'll never forget the piece of advice I got from people in the industry when they saw my new body ... They said, 'You need to lose more weight. The look this year is anorexia. We don't want you to be anorexic but that's what we want you to look like."
Rocha married interior designer James Conran on June 9, 2010. wedding dress was designed by Zac Posen.
Career
In 2002, agent Charles Stuart approached Rocha at an Irish dance competition and asked her if she would consider modeling for him. At that point, she had never thought of modeling before. When she did begin to model, her knowledge of fashion was limited. She eventually gained insight into the fashion world after her best friends crammed in fashion study sessions in between studying for exams.
Rocha started her professional career in 2004, signing with SUPREME in New York City. Two years later, Rocha met fashion photographer Steven Meisel. Soon, she was featured in an editorial with Gemma Ward and Amanda Moore. The editorial kickstarted her career, landing her the cover of the February 2006 issue of Vogue Italia. The week after, she walked the Spring/Summer 2006 New York City runways for a handful of designers, most notably Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs. Backstage at the Anna Sui show, Rocha met model Naomi Campbell, who held her hands and told her she was "her new favorite model".[6] After the New York Fashion Week, she soon followed by taking part in the Paris Fashion Week as well. She walked for esteemed designers like Stella McCartney, Shiatzy Chen, Christian Lacroix, and Emanuel Ungaro, and was chosen by Marc Jacobs to open and close his Louis Vuitton show.[citation needed]
During Jean Paul Gaultier's Scottish Highlands-inspired Fall/Winter 2007 show in February 2007, Rocha opened the show by Irish-dancing down the runway; American Vogue dubbed this the "Coco Moment" and suggested it as a sign that the fashion industry misses the "supermodels".
In the May 2007 issue of Vogue (US), she was featured on the cover with fellow models Doutzen Kroes, Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Pivovarova, Agyness Deyn, Jessica Stam, Hilary Rhoda, Chanel Iman, and Lily Donaldson as the new crop of supermodels.
Rocha has been on the covers of many top fashion magazines including Vogue, Flare, Fashion, Numéro, French, W, Harper's Bazaar, Dazed & Confused, i-D, Time Style & Design, among others.

Vogue Paris declared her one of the top 30 models of the 2000s.
In July 2010 Rocha appeared on vogue.co.uk every day for the entire month in the feature Today I'm Wearing. She followed in the footsteps of Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo to showcase her fashion and style choices each day. The following month, Rocha appeared on a billboard in Times Square for an ad campaign with Marie Claire magazine in partnership with Project Runway in which she modeled a contestant's winning design.

Career
Michaels began her career in exercise because she was overweight in her early teenage years. In 2009, on the television show The Doctors, Michaels screened a picture of herself when she was twelve years of age stating that she weighed 175 pounds (79 kg) and was 5 feet (150 cm) tall, so she was 65 pounds (29 kg) overweight. When she was thirteen years old, she was enrolled in a martial arts class by her mother, which was a new beginning for Michaels. Thereafter she dedicated herself to helping the overweight transform their lives and their bodies for the better.
She uses a blend of strength training techniques with her clients, including kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, plyometrics, and weight training.
Michaels is a celebrity adviser to National Day of Dance for Heart Health, an organization that encourages people to make exercise fun and to laugh, learn and dance to a healthier heart." She has several exercise DVDs, the most popular[citation needed] being the '30 Day Shred'.
Michaels hosted a Sunday talk radio show on Los Angeles' KFI (640 AM) from 2006 through 2009.
On October 21, 2008, she launched a new video game called Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009 for the Wii. A year later, she launched a sequel called Fitness Ultimatum 2010.
Michaels' business partner and manager is Giancarlo Chersich. Together they operate Empowered Media.
The Biggest Loser
She made her debut on episode 1 of season 1 of The Biggest Loser, in 2004. Michaels was the Red Team trainer until 2006, when she was replaced by Kim Lyons. She returned to the show in 2007 as the Black Team trainer, competing against Kim Lyons' Red Team and Bob Harper's Blue Team. Lyons did not return for the spring 2008 season, leaving Michaels as the only female trainer. Along with Bob Harper, Michaels was also a trainer in the Australian version of the show.
On December 7, 2010, Michaels announced via Twitter that the eleventh season of the show would be her last.
Losing It With Jillian
On June 1, 2010, NBC debuted a new spin-off reality series entitled Losing It With Jillian (aired Tuesdays in the first prime-time slot). The show uses the "Extreme Makeover" model where she targets one family per episode and goes to the home to personally work one-on-one with them for a week, then the last five minutes of the show she returns after six-weeks of the family working on their own with a trainer that the show has paid for.
David Hinckley of the New York Daily News states that the show uses "tacky overdramatic music and silly staged scenes" and is somewhat over-produced, and he would like to see a show "with less extreme cases and less melodramatic packaging".
Lawsuits
In February 2010, lawyer Melissa Harnett filed suit against Michaels, alleging that the Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control dietary supplement was ineffective, and saying that "telling people you can take two magic pills and then eat chocolate cake all day is a deception." Michaels subsequently released a statement saying that "some of the leading weight loss experts in the world" had reviewed the supplement before she endorsed it.
Also in February 2010, a class action suit named Michaels, Thin Care and Basic Research and Walgreens over the potential toxicity of ingredients contained in Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Fat Burner. According to that suit, the supplement contains citrus aurantium, an ingredient that allegedly causes high blood pressure and cardiac problems in certain individuals.
In August 2010, a $10 million class action suit was filed against Michaels and Thin Care International over the ingredients in Triple Process Total Body Detox and Cleanse. The plaintiff in the case is a registered dietician who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation. According to the suit, the supplement in question contained ingredients that could allegedly cause gastrointestinal ulcers, digestive distress and even irreversible liver damage. The suit also alleged that these ingredients represented a "potentially lethal combination." The Courthouse News Service reported that the plaintiff claimed that the suit was not about the money, but that "she simply wants [Michaels and Thin Care] to stop poisoning the public and give consumers their money back."
While experts interviewed about the supplements doubted that they could prove fatal, they agreed that they were ineffective. Lynn Willis, professor emeritus of pharmacology at Indiana University called one of the supplements "an absurdity" and "completely bogus." Dr. Keith Ayoob, director of the Nutrition Clinic at Albert Einstein College of Medicine also suggested that "if you have any of these problems or need help losing weight, see your physician, not Jillian Michaels.
Personal life
Jillian Michaels was born in Los Angeles, California on February 18, 1974. She currently lives in Los Angeles. In an interview in the May 2010 issue of Women's Health, she was asked if she would ever consider having children. Jillian's response was: "I'm going to adopt. I can't handle doing that to my body.
In response to criticism that she had insinuated that pregnancy ruined a woman’s body, Michaels explained in a later interview that she felt her words had been misunderstood. In an effort to provide context, she explained that pregnancy would be hard on her body because she had suffered from endometriosis and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) since she was 16. She said that she had not previously disclosed her conditions for reasons of privacy and because she was afraid people would stigmatize her as not being healthy.
